On the evening of August 17, Quanzhou made two appearances on CCTV's news Lianbo (News Broadcast), thanks to its new cultural and tourism scenarios in the ancient city and new breakthroughs in port development. The "Citong Magic Screen" on Zhongshan Road used light and shadow to interpret red memories, while the maiden voyage of a ro-ro ship from the Shihu Operation Area to Europe established a new channel for maritime exports. This city, which boasts both profound historical heritage and modern vitality, once again captured the attention of audiences across the country.
On August 16, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, a special "Citong Magic Screen" performance themed "Carry Forward the Great Spirit of the War of Resistance, Gather Strength for Citong's Revival" was staged on Zhongshan Road in the ancient city. Century-old arcade buildings served as natural screens for the 20-minute "One Window, One Scene" fantasy theater, which integrated red anti-war elements with the art of "sound, poetry, and painting" to vividly recreate the turbulent years of the War of Resistance, when people from all walks of life in Quanzhou united to defend the nation. As light and shadow flowed, the windows of the arcade buildings transformed into small "screens," allowing citizens and tourists to immerse themselves in the patriotic feelings of the people of Citong (Quanzhou’s historical name).

Since its premiere in April this year, this performance— which interprets traditional classics through trendy formats— has launched multiple special sessions. With its unique immersive experience, it has become a new highlight in cultural tourism: not only has it received widespread acclaim, but it has also gone viral on social platforms, injecting new vitality into the ancient city’s night economy.
Shifting from the vibrancy of the ancient city to the bustle of the port, CCTV’s camera captured the modern landscape of Quanzhou Port. On the same day, 1,074 new energy vehicles (NEVs) were neatly lined up at Berth 6 of the Shihu Operation Area in Quanzhou Port, waiting to be shipped to European countries such as Belgium and Norway via a ro-ro ship. This marks the official launch of Quanzhou Port’s first direct ro-ro shipping route to Europe, adding another efficient and convenient logistics channel for the export of Chinese NEVs.
As a millennium-old port city, Quanzhou’s port economy is accelerating its leap forward. According to the 2024 China Port City Port Economy Development Report released by the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China, the added value of Quanzhou’s port economy has exceeded 200 billion yuan for the first time, ranking it among the first tier of Chinese port cities and officially placing it in the ranks of "cities with a strong modern port economy".
Since the beginning of this year, Quanzhou has continued to enhance the capacity of its ports, focusing on four key areas: infrastructure upgrading, industrial agglomeration and development, expansion of foreign trade route networks, and policy and investment promotion coordination. The Quanzhou Port High-Quality Development Action Plan (2025-2027), issued in April, outlines the direction for the all-round development of the port in the next three years. The implementation of various measures will inject more robust driving force into this millennium-old port.
